LAG Announces Spring Art Show Winners

Local art works on display at Centre Congregational Church during Geraniumfest.

The following is an announcement from the Lynnfield Art Guild:

The LAG  (Lynnfield Art Guild) annual spring fine arts and crafts judged exhibit on Saturday May 19 featured the work of dozens of talented local artists.  The Judges gave the following awards:  Paintings Under Glass: First Prize to Ruth Mowder of Peabody for her watercolor ”Window Reflection on Rue de May”; Second Prize to Britt Daw of Wakefield for her watercolor “Still Life” and Third Prize to Jeannette Corbett of Reading for her watercolor “Summer at Boston’s Public Garden”. 

For Paintings Not Under Glass, First Prize was awarded to Maureen Munroe of Tewksbury for her acrylic “Pink Pail”; Second Prize to Susan Manning O’Briant of Winchester for her oil “Whispering Pines” which also won Best in Show for any category; and Third Prize to Mary Kelly of Woburn for her oil “The Breezeway”. Karen Duggan of Lynnfield won First Place for crafts for her needlepoint.  The popular vote went to Shaila Desai for her acrylic painting “Street Car”.

Honorable Mentions were awarded to Jeannette Corbett, Anthony Accetullo, Mary Kelly, Ruth Mowder (2), Sanford Meekin, Shaila Desai (2), and Andrea Maglio-Macullar (2).  First Place for a High School Student Artist was awarded to Michael Romano for his cut paper “Into the Inferno”, Second Place to Elise Orlowski for her Pen & Ink “Fly Away” and Third Place to Samantha Shapleigh for her Ink & Watercolor “Henna Design”.  An Honorable Mention was awarded to High School student Ada Maymo Costa for her cut paper “Art of Human Destruction.” 

The Special Awards with prizes were as follows: The Wakefield Cooperative Bank $100.00 award to Jeannette Corbett for her public garden watercolor; The Wakefield Cooperative Bank $50.00 award to Lynnfield High Student Elise Orlowski for her Pen & Ink; and the Robert Farris Jr. Wood End Studio Award of $50.00 for Excellence  in Oil Painting to Susan Manning O’Briant for her pines oil painting. There were four raffles: Charles Gargas’ donated Watercolor Landscape Painting was won by Frank Colombo; Shaila Desai’s donated photograph was won by the Storer family; the 99 Restaurant Gift Certificate donated by Virginia Dodwell was won by Susan Manning O’Briant, and the $30.00 Gift Card donated by Artist & Craftsman Supply of Saugus was won by Gail Rober.
