Gathering Change Film Screening Tackles Hunger in America

Local hunger relief nonprofit holds a screening of "A Place at the Table" with a panel discussion Monday night at North Shore Community College Danvers campus.

Local nonprofit Gathering Change, Inc. is holding a film showing and panel discussion next week that will focus on hunger in America – which now affects millions of Americans, many of them children.

Monday night at the North Shore Community College Danvers Campus on Ferncroft Road, the film “A Place at the Table” will be screened at 7 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. reception and 8:30 p.m. panel discussion and question and answer session.

The film focuses on three individuals dealing with hunger in their lives, with insights by various activists and public figures, including actor Jeff Bridges and Tom Colicchio of “Top Chef.” Complete information about the film, including a trailer, can be viewed at this link.

The showing is free but people are asked to consider bringing a monetary donation or gift card to a local supermarket. All proceeds will be donated to local food pantries.

“Come to learn more about hunger in America and in our communities, and to discuss concrete steps you can take to ensure that everyone has access to reasonably priced, nutritious food,” said an announcement from Gathering Change.

Gathering Change distributes thousands of dollars to local food pantries each year, much of it in the form of donated pocket change. Last fall, they brought a photography exhibit by Michael Nye on hunger in America to Endicott College in Beverly.
