Ovi Wants to Celebrate the New Year With You

Ovi Wants to Celebrate with You

Ovi has a New Year’s Wish He Would Like to Share with You

Happy New Year! I certainly hope you will have something good to celebrate as we enter 2013.  I, on the other hand, am not in the mood because I won’t have anyone to be with to watch the ball drop or to kiss me at the stroke of midnight. But, you go ahead and have a good time. I don’t mind. I will just stay here at PetSmart and wait for someone to fall in love with me and take me home.  It’s not a big deal.  I am not a party guy anyway.  Not really.  Well, ok, maybe a little.

I’ll just have to postpone my celebration until I have a real home with people who love me and toys to play with and a warm chair or lap for when I get tired out.  It’s not the champagne and streamers I will miss--although, I could really get into chasing those streamers!  But, you get what I mean.  Until I can be warm and snug with a family of my own, I’m just not up for a party.

Living in the adoption center has not been as fun as I thought it would be.  In fact, it is a little overwhelming. I like the other cats who are here with me.  But, honestly, sometimes they hiss at me for being too friendly and I don’t like that.  I mean, how could you be too friendly?  I can’t figure that out.  I definitely like the people who work here and to tell you the truth, I don’t know why they don’t take me home…especially for New Year’s (sigh).

So, let’s talk about the possibilities for my future.  In fact, I wonder if we might actually be a good match?  Yes, you.  You are reading about me, after all.  Let me tell you why you should come by to meet me in person.  Named after the Russian pro-hockey player, Alexander “Ovi” Ovechkin, I’ve got that athletic physique with ruggedly handsome tabby markings.  And, on the inside, I am the sweetest and mellowest young fellow you will ever meet—a true charmer.  Everyone agrees on that.

Since I am about two years old, I have gotten over most of my kitten yaya’s.  I do like to play, however.  My favorite toy is the laser light, even though I can never catch it.  If you have anything flying around your house, I promise to chase it.  Dangly toys, balls and catnip mice are definitely my thing. Then, after all that playing, it is time for a nap.  As you can see from my picture, I really do enjoy lounging around.  I also like to be cuddled and held.  And, I do like to talk as I am very social.  Really, the only disappointment in my life is not having a home.

Don’t get me wrong.  I much prefer PetSmart to being out on the street or in a home where I was not wanted.  PAWS is a great organization and I am so grateful to them for taking me in when I was alone and in need.

I guess I should also be grateful to you, too.  You have donated to support the work of PAWS, haven’t you?  If not, get on it!  Go to their webpage and donate via PayPal.  Or send a check to their address at 383R Lowell Street, Suite 5, Wakefield, MA 01880.  That would be a great present to all us homeless PAWS cats.  The PAWS volunteers love us whether we are sweet (like me) or scared, whether we are healthy (like me) or sick.  They just keep caring for us and we all find homes.

That said, I really, really, want to celebrate 2013 with you.  I could be happy with a solo companion, a couple, or a whole family.  I don’t mind friendly cats and, while I have yet to meet many dogs, I think I could also adjust to a nice dog.  I am generally curious and friendly and not the least bit aggressive toward other animals.  So, let’s make a date to meet and, who knows?  Maybe we will be celebrating 2013 together.  How does that sound?  Why not give PAWS a call?  Or just stop by PetSmart during our adoption hours this Thursday and Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.  If you call ahead and fill out an adoption application, I might just be going home with you for New Year’s Eve.  That is my secret dream.  But, I could settle for New Year’s Day or the day after.

If you are interested in learning more about Ovi, or any of our other adoptable cats or kittens, contact PAWS at (781) 246-6111 or PAWSwakefield@yahoo.com.  You can also meet many of our available cats at our weekly adoption hours: Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at VCA Wakefield Animal Hospital. Our adoption center at the Danvers PetSmart will also be holding its usual adoptions hours this week on Thursday and Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

All the Cats and Kittens at PAWS wish you a Very Merry Holiday Season and a Wonderful Healthy New Year.  Like Ovi, they thank you for your support in the past year and hope you continue to support PAWS, an all-volunteer nonprofit helping needy animals in your community.  To donate to PAWS via paypal, visit our website, www.pawswakefield.org or send checks payable to PAWS to 383R Lowell Street, Wakefield, MA 01880.  Ovi and all the PAWS cats and dogs and bunnies particularly appreciate the way PAWS cares for their medical needs and supports elderly and special needs rescues.  So help make the dreams of animals like Ovi come true by supporting PAWS as you think of your end of year donations.
