Lynnfield Library Announces October Activities

Month begins with Teen Brunch Book Club and George and Martha, ends with pumpkin decorating and Halloween stories.

SATURDAY, October 1 - Teen Brunch Book Club. Noon. All Lynnfield teens are invited to our first meeting of the Teen Brunch Book Club. If you'd like, bring with you the best book(s) you read this summer to tell us about. Bring your library card, too, so that you can check out the book we'll read together for the second meeting! Bagels and cream cheese, donut holes, and, of course, coffee will be served!  All teens ages 13-18 are invited. No registration is required for this first meeting, but please plan on consistent attendance the first Saturday of each month. MONDAY 3 - George and Martha Party! 3:45 p.m. Join us to celebrate James Marshall's beloved pair of friends, hippopotami George and Martha. We'll read some of their adventures as they explore the meaning of friendship. We will do a craft and enjoy some George-approved snacks (no split pea soup!). All ages are welcome. No registration required; just drop in!

TUESDAY 4 - Meeting of the Board of Trustees. 6:00 p.m. All are welcome!

THURSDAY 6 - Friends of the Library Board Meeting. 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Library Mezzanine. All are welcome!

FRIDAY 7 - First Friday Fiesta Story Time!  3:00 – 3:45 p.m.  All ages welcome, but activities geared towards ages 2-6. Pick up some world language skills at a bilingual (English and Spanish) story time program complete with stories in both languages, and songs, rhymes, and fingerplays in Spanish. Come ready to learn and laugh together! No registration required; just drop-in!

MONDAY 10 - The Library will be closed for Columbus Day.

WEDNESDAY 12 - Curious about Cuisine begins another year of great programs! Join us for "Andrea Cohen’s Introduction to Vegan Cooking"! FRIDAY 14 - Book Sale Preview Night for Friends!! Join at the door if you aren’t already a member! Meeting House on the Common. 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m.

SATURDAY 15 - Friends’ Annual Book Sale at the Meeting House on the Common. 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. “Bag of Books” sale is 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. All are welcome!

MONDAY 17 - The Library will close at 7 p.m. for Town Meeting.

WEDNESDAY 19 - Dinosaur Party with Paulette Morin. 6:30 p.m. Please join us for a special presentation of “Having Fun with Fossils and Dinosaurs” with Paulette Morin.  Adventurers, scientists, historians, and dinosaur enthusiasts alike should enjoy this presentation on fossil hunting. Ms. Morin will bring over 100 fossil specimens for us to examine, and, as importantly, tell us where and how to find fossils of our own! She will also introduce us to the wonders of the prehistoric lands dinosaurs inhabited. This program is geared towards children in preschool through 4th grade. THURSDAY 20 - BookLovers discuss A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America by Stacy Schiff from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. on the library mezzanine. Light refreshments. All are welcome!

WEDNESDAY 26 - BYO Pumpkin Decorating and Scary Story Time! 6:30 p.m. Join us if you dare for a scary story time! Bring your own pumpkin, big or small! We'll read eerie Halloween tales and have materials available for families to decorate their pumpkins just in time to put them on display for Halloween. Creepy refreshments will be served. All ages are welcome, but all children must be closely supervised by a parent or caregiver. No registration required; just drop in.

TUESDAYS NOVEMBER 1, 8, 15, and 22 Choral Director Bill Sano returns with 4 programs about George Gershwin! 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Meeting House.

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 9 - Squash, Squash and More Squash!  Curious about Cuisine partners with the Flower Workshop of Lynnfield for a program about growing beautiful winter squash (Flower Workshop) and creating delicious samples (Curious about Cuisine). THURSDAY NOVEMBER 17 - BookLovers discuss Alone Together: Why We Expect More from Technology and Less from Each Other  by Sherry Turkle from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. on the library mezzanine. Light refreshments. All are welcome!
