Library Accepting Food Donations for Late Fees in Sept.

Non-perishable items accepted in lieu of late fees, September 1-30 at Lynnfield Library.

The following was provided by the Lynnfield Library:

Do you have late fees at the Lynnfield Public Library from overdue books? Want to cut down your fines from overdue summer reading books?  If you would like, bring in non-perishable food donations between September 1 and September 30, 2013. The Library will be accepting food donations in lieu of money on accumulated library fines in our annual “Food for Fines” campaign.  Some restrictions do apply.

For most items, patrons will receive $1.00 off overdue fines for each item donated. Items with the highest demand are canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats, peanut butter, soups, pastas, and baby food. Patrons will receive $4.00 off their fines for every box of cereal, package of diapers or container of baby formula they donate. We cannot accept any expired or perishable items so please check the expiration dates on the cans and packages. All donations support Haven from Hunger, a local organization that serves residents of Peabody, Salem, and Lynnfield.

Last year, the Library collected over 300 food items. To participate, please bring all food donations to Circulation Desk at the Lynnfield Public Library. Food donations will not be accepted for non-Lynnfield fines or Rental DVD/Video late fees.

Please note that the timing of this annual drive was switched this year from December to September in order to provide donations to Haven from Hunger at a time when they generally receive fewer contributions.  We will not be holding a second drive in December.
