Author/Historian To Discuss American Christmas Traditions

Anthony Sammarco speaks Tuesday at Lynnfield Historical Society meeting on how Americans have celebrated Christmas over the years.

The following is an announcement from the Lynnfield Historical Society:

The Lynnfield Historical Society will present a program titled "Christmas Traditions” at its upcoming meeting, on Tuesday, November 20.  Its guest speaker will be Anthony Sammarco, the noted local historian and author.

Sammarco will present a slide lecture and will speak about the history of how Americans have celebrated Christmas since Puritan times, and how their traditions have evolved to include the Christmas tree, Christmas cards,  greens and holly, and present day celebrations.

Sammarco is the author of over sixty books on the history of Boston, He teaches history at the Urban College of Boston, where he was named Educator of the Year in 2003 and where he serves on the Leadership Council. He is the recipient of many awards for his work, and is: a fellow of the Massachusetts Historical Society; a member of the Boston Authors’ Club; and a proprietor of the Boston Athenaeum. Sammarco resides in Boston and Osterville.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 20 at 7:30 pm in the 1714 Meeting House.  The public is welcome.
