Take A Hike In Reedy Meadow With The Tree Committee Saturday

Also this week - Big game Wednesday for LHS volleyball, and Haven From Hunger is asking employers to participate in a "Dress Down Day for Hunger."

Today is Tuesday, Nov. 12. Here are five things worth knowing.

This Saturday, Nov. 16 at 9 a.m., the Lynnfield Tree Committee will lead a walk through the town’s Reedy Meadow Conservation Area along the boardwalk to Partridge Island. Meet at the entrance on Main Street at the corner of Heritage Lane. “There are still trees displaying their spectacular colors, and with the receding water table and few insects, the Fall is a great time to walk through the woods. Research from 2007 found “that a walk in the woods elevates counts of the white blood cells responsible for resisting tumors and viruses - attributing the effect to phytoncide, an aromatic substance given off by trees. The more phytoncide that a person inhales... the stronger the immune boost, with effects lasting for up to a month after exposure!” Improve your health - take a hike!” said Committee Chair Jane Bandini.

The LHS Volleyball team plays its MIAA semifinal game Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. against Fairhaven. The game is at Taunton High School. On Saturday, the volleyball team took the North Division 3 championship game against Notre Dame, 3-0.

The town is having a sharps collection day on Saturday, Nov. 23 at the DPW recycling center behind town hall from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents should bring their sharps in a sealable puncture-resistant container. Loose needles or those in bags or glass containers will not be accepted.
