This family event has quickly become a Melrose Mothers Day tradition drawing over 900 women. The race finishes up with children handing out flowers, a bounty of baked goods and coffee, music, and awards.
Awards are given to the top finishers, the first mother and grandmother to finish, and best mother/daughter team finishers. Awards are also given to top age group finishers.
A portion of your entry fee is donated to the Melrose Alliance Against Violence. MAAV is a domestic violence prevention and education organization in Melrose. Since the races inception in 1998 the Melrose Running Club has donated over $110,000 to MAAV.

More About Melrose Armory, National Guard
The Massachusetts National Guard formed on December 13, 1636, when it was known as the Massachusetts Bay Colonial Militia. That date is considered the birth of the National Guard. This is the group of soldiers who began the Revolutionary War, firing the first shots at Lexington and Concord.
Driving down Main Street in Melrose, just past Pine Banks Park is where you'll find the National Guard Armory. You'll routinely find soldiers training at this location. In the back of the building, military vehicles are almost always in use. There's a monument in the front of the armory that's dedicated to the National Guardsmen who have served the country.
