Welcome back, Patch Blogger!
This week, Lynnfield Patch had an article looking back at some local connections to the Whitey Bulger arrest – in particular, John Connolly, the former FBI agent (and town resident) jailed for helping him evade capture. However, Reading Patch had its own interesting local angle on that saga, focusing on a businessman from that town, Roger Wheeler, who was gunned down on Bulger's orders in 1979. The Back Bay Patch provided some throrough coverage of the Bulger story as well, with the courthouse located there. There are too many news items to provide individual links too, but a scan down that …
This doesn't necessarily fall under the realm of social media, but it's one of those light topics that fits well into a weekend column. Those who read the latest police log may have noticed that on Tuesday, June 7, the Bali Hai Chinese restaurant called police to report that youths from the nearby little league park were using their restroom. So that of course triggered the inspiration for a headline: "You Want To Pee? Buy a Pu-Pu Platter!" But, sometimes discretion is the better part of valor – and that's oh-so-true when you're an editor of any kind of mainstream publication that has readers…
This was a pretty cool and interesting photo by the Lynnfield Animal Hospital this week – a Fun Friday contest where readers guessed a cat's ailment based on its x-ray (hint: it's exacerbated by obesity and the cat is a neutered male.)Answer? It's a 16 year old cat with serious degenerative arthritis in its back, hips, elbows and knees. Personally, I was convinced that I saw some sort of tail in the stomach going on to something much larger and let's just say I based all of my guessing on that. So anyhow, here are some tips also from the Lynnfield Animal Shelter to help pet owners lower their…
Every Saturday, Lynnfield Patch features a column looking back at the things that we spotted on our Facebook and Twitter accounts as they pertain to the town. One highlight of the week to check out is Tom Condardo's piece "A Fond Farewell To The Class Of '11" on his Lynnfield Football Gridblog. Also this week, Bob Roche provided some of the photographic highlights of the week for Lynnfield Patch with his coverage of the town's Memorial Day parade and ceremony. Many Readers may be aware of PAWS, which helps pets find homes in Lynnfield and other surrounding communities. Check out this report …
Social media offers more ways than ever for readers and publications to interact and exchange information. However, sometimes the old-fashioned things do just as well – such as letters to the editor. This week, Lynnfield Patch ran two of them, and the reader interest seemed to be fairly strong. If you've got a letter you'd like to send, email William.laforme@patch.com. Elsewhere in the town's world of social media this week, the Animal of Hospital of Lynnfield posted this week for people to email their pet photos to contact@animalhospital.com to be featured on their lobby TV system.
