Martial Arts for the ADD/ADHD Student - does it help?

As an instructor, I have witnessed first hand the effects of martial arts training on children with add/adhd.  While there are many children and adults diagnosed with add/adhd, the cure is not simple and is there a cure? I leave that up to you to decide.  We have had children come in based upon the recommendation of their pediatrician or even adult students enroll based upon what their Dr. has suggested.  So, what does martial arts do for those with add/adhd?  It offers them an outlet, pure and simple. Are we the cure, absolutely not, but it is part of a solution.  Martial arts makes them think, it helps them focus, it gives them goals, it helps them sleep better due to physical activity.   A sustained commitment to the martial arts develops routines, it teaches respect and perseverance and most importantly increases their self esteem and self worth. What the practice of martial arts ultimately works toward is a healthy mind, a healthy spirit, and a healthy body!  Martial arts is for everyone, but not everyone has what it takes to train, do you have what it takes?  You can email Sensei Janice at Cervizzis@aol.com with any questions or comments.
