St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Dedicates New Organ

Next organ concert is Sunday, June 12.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 127 Summer St. in Lynnfield, dedicated its new organ on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 4 p.m. during a service of Evensong.  The new organ, manufactured by the Rodgers Company, was installed in late March.

The Rt. Reverend Gayle Harris, Bishop Suffragan of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts, officiated at the service with The Rev. Michael Dangelo, rector of St. Paul’s, assisting.  The choir of St. Paul’s, led by organist Kathy Surette, provided music.

The new Rodgers organ replaces a 60-year-old instrument, which had become impossible to maintain due to its obsolete technology.  The new organ features three manuals, 184 stops, and includes the ability to generate 50 high-quality Roland orchestral sounds.

The purchase of the new organ was funded completely by parishioner gifts, many in thanksgiving or in memory of loved ones.

“The Episcopal Church maintains a long history of diverse sacred music,” said Rev. Dangelo.  “Our new organ will not only lead our worship through this music, but it will offer us the opportunity to share our musical heritage with the larger community of Lynnfield and beyond.”
