Riders prepare to begin the 8th annual Reid's Ride at Lynnfield High School parking lot, Sunday, July 15th, 2012.

The 8th annual Reid's Ride raised more than $150,000 to fight cancer in young people, drawing more than 400 cyclists who rode 28 miles from Lynnfield High School to Stagefort Park in Gloucester on Sunday morning.

Riders head up Main Street in Lynnfield into Middleton, passing through Danvers, Beverly and Manchester on the way into Gloucester.  The riders pay a registration fee and agree to raise a minimum of $125 in donations to the Reid Sacco Memorial Cancer Research Fund. The event is in memory of a 2003 Lynnfield High School graduate who died of cancer at age 20.

This year's event was also noteworthy because the Sacco family has just announced the establishment of the Reid R. Sacco Adolescent & Young Adult Clinic for Cancer and Blood Diseases at Tufts Medical Center. The new clinic will serve adolescent and young adult cancer patients.
