Last week, this website noted that the Lynnfield Police Department is among the town entities taking a look at what kind of effect the upcoming Market Street at Lynnfield project will have on staffing needs.

The article noted that the police department in the short term hopes to have a full-time detective and a new officer in place for the coming fiscal year largely just to deal with current staffing needs. Once phase 1 of Market Street opens up in about a year, the department may then look at adding two additional officers to handle the expected increase in service calls from the commercial and residential properties there. The fire department is also expecting an upswing in service calls as the project gets up and running.

Budget-wise, anticipated revenues from Market Street are expected to do much more than just cover the cost of some added public safety personnel  - especially since the town's commercial tax base is already fairly small. Local voters had a difficult debate over bringing this project to town in the first place, and a tough economy has only held up the expected financial benefits over the past couple of years.
