The following is an announcement from the Animal Hospital of Lynnfield:

Dr. Diana Watkins, Veterinarian at the Animal Hospital of Lynnfield, led a pet care clinic  and first aid training event this past week at St. Joseph Parish in Wakefield.  The event drew almost 50 attendees and helped to raise nearly $500 for the Veterinary Scholarship Trust of New England (VSTONE).

Attendees were educated on response techniques on some of the most commonly seen emergencies for dogs and cats.  Pet owners learned how to perform CPR on a dog with a live demonstration of mouth to nose resuscitation; tips to responding to heat stroke, toxin injection, seizures, dehydration, and drowning; how to make a first aid kit for you home; what household items are toxic to your pooch or cat, how to bandage and splint legs, and the best things you can do for you dog or cat on the way to the emergency room or while contacting your Veterinarian for help. 

All proceeds from the event went to VSTONE, which provides scholarships for New England area students studying veterinary medicine.
