Meet the Contractor: Weaver Brothers

For this new series of posts, I will be interviewing some of the contractors that I know and recommend, who just happen to live right here in Lynnfield.

Being in the business of design, and with a husband in the trades, I get the chance to meet and work with a lot of different contractors. I am always very impressed with the level of skill and knowledge that it takes to run a successful contracting business.

A contractor has to run two businesses in one ... first they must know their trade well along with the basics of the other trades that affect their on-the-job schedules. In addition, they have to manage their business from estimating-to-invoicing-to-marketing-to meeting the expectations of clients, subcontractors and the people who are a part of their team. On top of that, many contractors today are also looked to as a resource for the newest information on “green practices” in building and design, while being asked to provide home-owners with recommendations on how to achieve the renovations of their dreams on scaled back budgets.

My advice when choosing a contractor? Get referrals from friends, family or industry professionals. Another tip: A good contractor is always worth waiting for – if they are in demand and are communicating with you on a regular basis on the stages of your project, try to be patient and not feel the urge to rush them into getting a job done. Being able to comfortably discuss your goals with your chosen contractor while trusting their professional recommendations is the best way to get your design “happy ending.”

First up in our Meet the Contractor Series: Lynnfield resident and master carpenter Everett Weaver of

How long have you been in the business of carpentry?

I have been in the carpentry business since 1985.

How about masonry?

My brother, Perry, studied masonry at the North Shore Regional Tech. We have been working together doing masonry since 1990. Our father was also a mason.

Where did you learn your trade?

I studied carpentry at the North Shore Regional Technical School. Cabinet making started in middle school where I elected to take woodworking classes. I built my first coffee table in 7th grade. My first summer job was for my carpentry teacher during sophomore year of high school. We built an addition.

What are your most requested finish projects?

Dining room trim upgrades (such as crown molding, chair rail and panel molding) and mud-rooms are frequently requested. Also, high-end bathroom remodeling is popular now.

How is your company “green?” What steps do you take to be eco-conscious?

I encourage my customers to use recycled materials to build with (for example counter tops made from recycled glass), or ecologically sustainable materials such as bamboo.  Most recycled or “green” building materials and products do not necessarily cost more, and they are no more difficult to install than traditional materials.

What new trends do you see in home renovations/design-build projects?

Most customers now want their homes to be designed in such a way that they inspire spending more time together with the family such as creating open concept kitchen/family rooms and adding media rooms.

What was one of your most unusual projects?

I recently completed a garage renovation where the client wanted the garage to resemble a horse stable.

What was one of your projects that you are most proud of?

I am most proud of custom cherry cabinets that I built in an office for a customer. They required a lot of craftsmanship and experience to be built and installed properly.

What are some of the benefits of hiring Weaver Brothers?

When I was working for someone else, I could not control customer service, the end product, or the quality. I really enjoy taking care of my customers and providing a quality product that is exactly what they want.

What do you like most about working for customers here in Lynnfield?

I enjoy having the ability to provide customers here in Lynnfield with prompt service since they are so close to home. It is also nice to be able to work with someone who also lives in the same community.

Do your sons enjoy carpentry work and do they ever help out with the family business?

My youngest son, Luke (12), enjoys learning about my craft and enjoys working with me.  He wants to become a civil engineer when he grows up.
