Several years after his graduation from Lynnfield High School, Ryan Sweezey is already working on his second album and regularly playing at various local establishments.
Sweezey, a singer/acoustic guitarist currently heading into his third year at Northeastern, has been playing at Harrington's and other area venues for about a year now. He's on the entertainment calendar for Harrington's in Wakefield tonight and also for Friday, August 24. He also plays regularly at the Emerald Rose in Billerica and has also played gigs in Bedford and Lynn.
Earlier this year, Sweezey released his first album, available on iTunes and Amazon, entitled "No Hollywood Star," and featuring work by some prominent local musicians who may be familiar names to local residents - Brian Maes (Keyboards), Kook Lawry (Guitar), Tim Archibald (bass) and Dickie Paris (Drums). Sweezey reported that a relative knew Maes, frontman for the Brian Maes Band, suggested he send him some material, and their work on this album eventually took shape.
Sweezey reported that he is currently working on a second album that will also feature work by Maes, although there is no title for it yet. On his website, RyanSweezeyMusic.com, he also notes that two of his songs, "Breathe," and "Stay," will be played August 20 on the NECN Morning Show soundtrack.
Despite his musical momentum, Sweezey is covering all of his bases when it comes to the future - He is a journalism major doing his co-op work with Boston City TV. "I'd like to do this full time if I can but I'm probably for the most part going to do it on the side," said Sweezey.
