Update: Lynnfield Approves Prop. 2 1/2 Override
753-290 vote allows high school expansion project to move forward.
Residents of Lynnfield voted tonight on a proposed debt exclusion to fund the high school building project. The final count was 753-290, with all four Lynnfield precincts registering strong support for the measure.
According to the town website, the ballot question read "Shall the Town of Lynnfield be allowed to exempt from the provisions of proposition two-and-one-half, so called, the amounts required to pay for the bond issued in order to complete a feasibility study, addition of classroom space and associated costs at the Lynnfield High School, 275 Essex Street, Lynnfield, MA?"
Late last month at town meeting, Lynnfield voters approved the plan to ease crowding at the high school by adding new classroom space. Approval of the debt exclusion tonight would mark the final step toward getting the project underway.
Under a debt exclusion, voters approve a town expenditure that does not carry any new taxes once it is paid off.
The high school project was endorsed by the Lynnfield Selectmen's Board as well as the Finance Committee and town officials appeared generally optimistic that the measure will be approved.
