Lynnfield Girls Basketball Wins Two
Recent victories for Lady Pioneers include games at Rockport and Manchester-Essex.

On Friday the LHS girls varsity basketball team traveled to Rockport to face a team that had lost to Hamilton-Wenham by 35 pts and to North Reading by 45 points as the Division 4 Vikings continued to play up against Division 3 rivals.
The Pioneers cruised to a 64-26 victory, notching their fourth win of the season. Jillian Fama set the tone with a three pointer and Brittany Hunt contributed 6 first period points as Lynnfield jumped out to a 16-6 lead.
Mancini Excels In Second Period
The second period was the Kelsey Mancini show as the trio of Pioneer guards, B.Hunt, Fama, and Montesanto fed the ball to Mancini in the low post as she erupted for 13 of her game high 14 points (Mancini did not play the second half).
The half time score was 40-16 Lynnfield. The third period opened with sophmore Fama at point. Fama hit her third three pointer ending with 13 points as she sat out the last period. Shannonn Lamusta handled the point as the Pioneers extended their lead at the end of three to 57-21.
Coach Pamela MacDonald played her bench in the fourth period, giving them valuable time.In addition to Mancini's 14 and Fama's 13 points. scoring was distributed as Gretta Hunt (5), Abby Norwood (3), Whitney Montesanto (2), Brittany Hunt (8), Morgan Festa (4), Jen Schelzi (4), Kelsey LeBlanc (7) and Hannah Adams(4) all scored.
Another Victory For Lady Pioneers On Monday
On Monday the Lady Pioneers continued their travels going to Manchester-Essex for a return meeing with the Hornets. Lynnfield won the first game 60-50 and expected the rematch to be just as tough. With Abbi Biggar at guard and Leanne Ciccone at center the Hornets had the ability to make a game of it. Jillian Fama's 9 first period points(including one three pointer) and Kelsey Mancini's 6 points propelled the Pioneers to a close 19-15 lead. These were matched by Biggar's 9 and Ciccone's 6.
The second period saw the Pioneers go inside to Mancini (5pts) and Morgan Festa (4pts) as the half ended with Lynnfield ahead 34-26. With the Hornets Biggar and Ciccone both in foul trouble, Lynnfield led by Brittany Hunt harrassed and stole the ball numerous times as they outscored M-E 13-1 in the third period extending the lead to 47-27.
Fifth Win Surpasses Last Year's Total
The fourth period saw Brittany Hunt and Jillian Fama on the bench as Gretta Hunt, Abby Norwood, Jen Schelzi and Hannah Adams took over. The Hornets were held to 7 second half points with the final score 57-33. With the fifth win the Lady Pioneers have surpassed last years total.
Tough Competition On The Horizon
Over the next few weeks the girls will begin the hard part of their schedule against the iron of the Cape Ann League. It will be interseting to see how the young players will react to the increased competition. Kudos to Kelsey Mancini on her third double double of the young season and to sophmore Jillian Fama on having the third highest points per game average in the CAL small division after 6 games (13.5 ppg). The next scheduled game is Wed. against Div.1 Malden at home.
