LETTER: Introduction From School Committee Candidate Jim Dillon

Send your letters to the editor, Lynnfield op-ed pieces and statements of candidacy to william.laforme@patch.com.

I ask for your vote for School Committee on April 9th.  I am running for School Committee because the Lynnfield Schools are central to the fabric and image of our town.   The quality of education provided by our schools has a profound impact on each student and family.  We live in an increasingly competitive global environment where knowledge, skill, work ethic, and personal character will play a larger role in creating opportunity.  It is the responsibility of the committee to make sure that every student receives an outstanding educational experience.  Our schools should be characterized by a friendly respectful atmosphere, where a first class curriculum is delivered with instruction that is engaging for students.

Everyone in town is impacted by the quality of our schools.  Lynnfield’s image as a community is largely defined by the performance of its schools.  We need to ensure that Lynnfield continue to be the destination for people looking for a great education for their children.  The schools are the primary driver of real estate desirability and value.  We are all also impacted by the cost of providing an education.  It is extremely important that the committee make data based decisions and place its resources where they will have the greatest positive impact for students.  The Committee must evolve with economic times and find ways to work within the financial constraints of the town.

It is my goal that the Lynnfield school system, which is already very good, becomes the best in the state.

Jim Dillon
