Five Things You Need To Know: March 2

Sunday afternoon, stop by Centre Congregational Church and join members of local nonprofit group BKP for a family games day.

Today is Friday, March 2. Here are five (more or less) things you need to know.

BKP Family Day: This Sunday, March 4 from 1 to 5 p.m., stop by the Centre Congregational Church for a family day put on by local nonprofit group BKP featuring games such as Scrabble, Chinese Checkers and Monopoly, plus prizes and food. BKP gathers books for children and teens and donates them to libraries in poor communities in the Philippines. There is no charge to attend family day, but please RSVP by email to bkp@bkpinc.org.

Also at the Congregational Church on Sunday at 2 p.m., there is a service of remembrance planned. Click here for more information.

Author Event: On Friday, March 16 between 5 and 8 p.m., drop by Christine's Cafe and Confections and meet Beth Aldrich, author of "Real Moms Love To Eat."

Live Music: Lynnfield High School graduate Ryan Sweezey is performing tonight at Harrington’s in Wakefield from 9:30 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. He also recently released his first CD “No Hollywood Star,” with the songs available on iTunes. He will also be back at Harrington’s on Friday, March 30.

Reid’s Ride: Reid’s Ride is an annual 28-mile bike ride from Lynnfield to Gloucester that raises money for children’s cancer research. This year’s ride is on Sunday, July 15. Last year, hundreds of riders were required to raise at least $150 and left Lynnfield High School’s parking lot at about 7 a.m., in many cases finishing well before noon. For more information about this year’s ride, click here.

Conservation Commission: With the resignation of Peter Scantiledes from the Lynnfield Conservation Commission, there are now two open spots there to fill. Any town resident who may be interested in filling one of these spots should inquire at the selectmen’s office in town hall.
