Five Things You Need To Know: August 22

Where in Lynnfield would you put a dog park?

Today is Monday, August 22. Here are five things you need to know.

Possible Dog Park: In the foreseeable future, an effort may be launched to establish a dog park in town. However, the main question at this point is where the park would be located. With that in mind, readers are invited to post suggestions in the comments section below about where a dog park could potentially be located in Lynnfield.

Ace Bailey Children's Foundation: The foundation is having a September 13th remembrance event presented by the Canadian Consulate of Boston. Bailey, a former Boston Bruins player and Lynnfield resident, was killed in the September 11th terrorist attacks. For tickets or more information about the event, go to www.acebailey.org or call 401-270-6420.

Donations For Young Cancer Patients: There are several days left to donate items to the Dana Farber Toys for Special Kids With Cancer campaign. Dropoff boxes for electronics, gift cards, games and other items are at the library, Lynnfield Fire Headquarters, and the Village Pharmacy until Friday, August 26. The effort is being organized by Lynnfield's Cameron Drugan for his Eagle Scout service project. Click here to learn more.

Football Practice: There's still more than a week until back to school time is officially upon us, but it's approaching fast. How fast? Today, Lynnfield High School football players start practicing for the coming season.

Middle School Golf Program: A mandatory parent meeting for the 2011 Lynnfield Middle School Golf Program is on Thursday, September 8 at 3 p.m. Sessions for grades 5-6 and grades 7-8 will be getting underway soon after. For more information, call the Reedy Meadow pro shop at 781-334-9877.

Hello, this article from January indicates there will be some open space in the new development, although I don't know how specific the plans are for it at this point.
