Arrange Flowers Like a Pro

Salvy and Dave from Salvy the Florist share their professional tips for creating flower arrangements with a professional flair

After experiencing a long, harsh winter and watching Mother Nature create devastating havoc across the globe, it is easy to forget that water combined with earth can also produce delicate and beautiful results. I took a look in my backyard this past weekend and actually was shocked to see a colorful patch of tiny crocuses in full bloom. I almost thought they would not return this year!

Getting outside to survey our surroundings may bring some unpleasant surprises ... bushes that didn't survive, tree branches littering our yards and home exteriors that need repair. Before rolling up your sleeves to tackle the exterior clean-up, why not take a moment and virtually smell the roses?

The Village Garden Club of Lynnfield hosted Salvy the Florist this past Monday night at the Old Meeting House. Salvy "Rocco" Migliaccio (a third generation florist) shared floral arranging tips along with amusing anecdotes from the family business while lead floral designer, Dave – who has been creating designs for Salvy's for over 10 years – whipped up half-a-dozen arrangements all bursting with the colors of spring to come. Click on each photo to the right to read some of the tips-of-the-trade that we learned from both Salvy and Dave.
